Pair of Antique French paste earrings made from 1850s. These earrings were made with sparkly hand cut paste with a large pear shaped stone in the center. The stones sparkle like real diamonds. The center stone is equivalent to a 1.5 carat diamond. They are in great condition without missing stones. Total 2 1/8 inches long. Closed backs indicates early Victorian era. They are French origin, as stamped on the back with French silver guarantee mark (in use since 1838), the word FRAN and a diamond shaped maker's mark that is partial and the only recognizable part looks like a teapot sprout. The screw backs are a later add or replacements, they are also French, with small boar's head hallmark.
